Files
The Files panel works directly with the active local project folder. It loads the top level first and fetches child directories when you expand them, so a large tree never has to be read at once. The tree refreshes itself when Genexy detects changes on disk. Opening a file shows it in the view or editor that fits it.
Reading the tree
- Orange name: the entry matches a Git ignore rule.
- Filled blue folder with a branch chip: the folder is the root of a Git repository, the project itself or a nested one; the chip shows its checked-out branch.
- Status letter and name colour: the Git state reported for the entry,
Mmodified,Aadded,Ddeleted,Rrenamed,Uuntracked. - Green: a generated component. Its folder is filled green, and its
.genexyspec and the files the generator owns have green names on a green tint. Those files are rewritten on every regeneration. A stub the generator only created once, such as a service class, is yours and is not green. - Special folder icons: Java, Kotlin and resource source roots are marked when they are detected.
- Collapsed packages: a chain of single-child Java or Kotlin package folders is shown as one dot-separated name,
such as
io.genexy.landrouting.
An ignored file is neither deleted nor hidden. Ignore rules stop a file from being committed; they do not stop you or an AI agent from opening it and sending its contents somewhere.
File operations
From the toolbar, the context menu or drag-and-drop you can:
- create a file or folder;
- open a file, or choose how to open it with Open As;
- rename, copy, cut, paste or delete the selected entries;
- upload files into the project;
- move entries between folders by dragging them;
- refresh the tree;
- open a directory in a terminal.
The tree supports multi-selection, so the copy, move and delete actions can apply to several entries at once.
Java and Kotlin packages
Inside a Java or Kotlin source root (src/main/java, src/main/kotlin and their src/test counterparts) the context
menu offers New Package… instead of New Folder. The input starts with the package you clicked, such as
com.example.myapp.model; edit it into the package you want, for example com.example.myapp.service.routing, and
press Enter. Every missing folder of the package is created.
