Git Integration
Genexy has two Git surfaces: the Commit panel, for turning your current work into a commit, and the Git panel, whose Log tab shows branches and history. Both understand a project that contains more than one repository.
Review and commit
Open Commit
The Commit panel groups files into Conflicts, Changes and Untracked, so a large set of new files never buries the edits you care about. Inside a group the files are arranged by directory, and by repository when the project has more than one. A green dot marks a staged file (a half dot one that is partly staged). The filter narrows the list by file name.
Inspect a file
Select a changed file to open its diff. It starts with the changed hunks (Patch) side by side (Split); Full shows the whole file, Unified one column, and the arrows jump between changes. The letter after a file name tells its state: M modified, A added, D deleted, R renamed, U conflict, ? untracked.
Stage
The + on a row stages that file and − unstages it; the context menu of a group does the same for a directory, a repository or a whole group.
Commit
Enter a message and choose Commit (or press Ctrl+Enter). With nothing checked, the staged changes are committed;
check files to commit only those, while other staged changes stay staged. The line above the message shows which of
the two applies. Enable Amend only when you deliberately want to replace the previous local commit; leaving the
message empty then keeps the original one. The stash button next to the commit buttons opens the stash manager.
Push when ready
Commit & Push sends the commit to the configured remote in one step. Authentication uses the Git configuration already present on your device, so an existing credential helper or SSH key keeps working.
Amending a commit that you have already pushed rewrites history the remote does not expect. Only amend commits that are still local.
Branches and history
The Log tab gives you:
- every repository of the project with its local and remote branches; a star marks the checked-out branch, and arrows show how far it is ahead of or behind its upstream;
- a commit graph that shows merge relationships rather than a flat list, with branch, remote and tag labels;
- search by message text or hash, Branch, User and Date filters, and a Tags picker;
- the selected commit’s details, parents and changed files, with actions in its menu;
- a diff for any changed file in that commit.
History loads in pages; Load older commits under the list fetches the next one. The Console tab lists every Git operation the IDE ran, with its output; failed ones are counted on the tab and can be shown on their own.
Git in the shell
Every platform can also run Git from Genexy Shell, including Android and iOS. Changes and the Git workspace are usually faster for reviewing and staging; the shell is better for anything script-driven or for commands they do not expose.
