Create or Open a Project

Genexy works with project folders on your device. There is no required project format: open an existing codebase, or create a blank folder and start from nothing.

Create a project

Choose New Project

On the welcome screen, create an empty project.

Select a location

On desktop, pick the parent folder with the native folder picker. On mobile, use the in-app storage picker, which is limited to the locations the operating system exposes to the app.

Name the project

Enter a name and an optional description. Genexy creates the folder and opens it as the active workspace.

Add or import files

Use the Files panel to create files and folders, upload files, rename entries or drag items between directories.

Open an existing project

Choose a local folder from the welcome screen or the recent-project list. Genexy loads the top level first and fetches child directories when you expand them, which keeps large repositories responsive.

The project opens in the Files panel, and you can start editing right away. The colours and markers in the tree are explained in Files.

Multiple repositories in one project

If the folder you open contains nested Git repositories, Genexy detects each one and shows its branch next to the folder. The Git features then let you pick which repository you are acting on, so a monorepo with independent submodules stays manageable.

Nothing has to be imported or converted: Genexy works directly with the folder on your device, and the project stays a normal folder that any other tool can open.
